FFXIV new footage and other cool things

September 24th, 2009

New Final Fantasy XIV in-game and cgi footage have been revealed at kotaku! The video quality isn’t that perfect but imaginary does. Can’t wait for HD version!

Another thing that sparks my attention was a debut trailer for Settlers: Paths to a Kingdom. The legendary Settlers returns to PC in 2010. I remember playing it many years ago and enjoying the green hills and medieval music motifs playing at background. The debut trailer is very and very interesting in terms of creativity. Who knows, maybe somewhere in the future classic table top based games (like Warhammer) would be played like that?

Make sure to check the developer diary with Fumito Ueda, creator of The Last Guardian and experience new bits of footage from his epic adventure.

And if you’re in the creative mood, there are some nice threads goin’ on at ConceptArt.Org. First, check the massive art dump by Marko Djurdjevic with tons of artwork from Marvel universe. This dude is insane you know. But Guild Wars 2 guys are still goin’ crazy with loads and loads of conceptual art. If you’re a fan or prefer hard copies don’t miss their new artbook featuring all that stuff!

Wakkawa a.k.a. Jace Wallace got some nice chicks in his thread. There are some nudies so be warned!

Ooops! Almost forgot! Sergey Kondratovich throw a ton of stuff from Magesty 2 and other projects. Your mouse would suffer, I promise!

ps. In conclusion, you could experience JFBuckner’s MEMORIES SANCTUS Chapt.1 online manga and get some sleep. Cheers guys!

Mitumasa’s REFLECT

July 15th, 2009

Mitumasa Yoshizawa’s website REFLECT got a total revamp. If you aren’t familiar with Mitumasa, well go and check his works now! He’s one of the coolest japanese sculptors creating amazing girls in cooperation with Shunya Yamashita (another great japanese artist).

Mitumasa - REFLECT

The site is in japanese but you won’t be lost since everything is clean and simple. Oh and these dolls are truly beautiful (and expensive!) creations.

I suppose within 10 maybe 15 years later they will got CPU or cyberbrains and all that electronic/MEMS stuff inside just like Chobits.

REWHY

June 5th, 2009

Since discovering Hyung-Tae Kim works in 2002 or so I’ve been fascinated by korean artists. These guys (and girls!) got a crazy imagination, bold skills and tremendous endurance. Most of them are working in the game industry, producing concept art, 3d assets and promotional illustrations for various korean MMORPG. Because of the government support, 100% of the korean games are MMO.

The good example of successful visual design is Lineage II. Those dark elfs are probably the most effective and attractive creations (taking into account polycout and texture limitations). But the upcoming next-gen MMO’s would be better! Besides the others, Aion is the most anticipated game got a great visuals and stunning artwork. Aion posters and illustrations are just wonderful and I finally discovered the guy behind some of them.

Ryu-Hun Yong is a korean artist, conceptual designer and illustrator. He specialized in character concepts, costume design,Ā illustration and so on. Armed with Photoshop, Painter, Illustrator and 3d studio max he creates stunning posters, interesting characters and even graphic novels. Basically I discovered him by searching for the guy behind Fox Spirit manhwa, published in Apple vol.2 artbook.

Ryu - Hun Yong's Fox Spirit

He’s amazing artist and his website truly reflects that. The only problem is that it’s not user-friendly webpage. The blog is skewed in Firefox (all I see is a tiny stripe) and you can’t save images in just one click. Honestly I don’t know why artists doing such things.

Roman’s website is very plain and clean, no graphics fluff or fancy flash. The core content is hiding under the gallery section while stuff page is all about beautiful panoramic photos. The rest is pretty standard except the idle links section.
